Zayd Ahmed achieves exceptional sentence of 4 years for the importation of 7kg of cocaine

Zayd Ahmed was instructed to represent the defendant, who was charged with the importation of 7 kilograms of cocaine from Jamaica.
The defendant was unsuccessful at trial, having been found guilty by a jury.
At the sentencing hearing, the Crown submitted that, due to the quantities and purity involved, the starting point ought to be 10 years.
However, Mr. Ahmed persuaded the Judge to step outside of the guidelines due to the defendant’s vulnerabilities, psychological diagnosis and her age of 22.
After mitigating, the Judge was persuaded to impose a sentence of 4 years in custody.
